Tour of Dharwad in One Day
Dharwad-Hubli twin cities in North Karnataka can be easily accessed from all neighbouring cities and states through Hubli railway station and the airport. Although the itinerary will overflow regarding the places to be visited in a day, there are some spots on the most recommended list. Someshwara Temple for example is a heritage site constructed around 12th century and situated adjacent to SDM College in Hubli-Dharwad.
With marvellous architecture of the temple and the holy relics of Ganapati and Mahishasuramardini, visitors will be amazed by the divinity of this place. Ulavi Basapanna Temple features on the itinerary too as the temple with 63 decorated mantaps or support dedicated to followers of Shaiva sect. Besides, a visit to Dattatreya Temple in Dharwad depicting the Holy trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Maheswar and Bhavani Shankar Temple built by the Chalukya rulers are famed tourist spots. A visit to the Hanuman Temple at Nuggikeri to seek blessings of the idol is highly recommended on a day’s visit to Dharwad.
Unkal Lake, the beautiful and picturesque water body near Hubli is a tourist hub with sunset points and the statue of Vivekananda in the middle of the lake with boating facilities available. Nrupatunga Betta is a popular picnic hub and a bird watching site atop a hillock and also a jogger’s paradise in Dharwad-Hubli region. More noteworthy places in this region are Chandramouleswara Temple, Indira Glass House, Shankara Math, Siddharoodha Math.
Dharwad is accessible by train and air from Hubli along with intercity buses, cabs and auto rickshaws which ply on this route. There are plenty of refreshment joints, restaurants and hotels in and around Dharwad which will ensure a pleasant and comfortable visit to the historic town which served as the base for uniting Kannada speaking regions to form the state of Karnataka.
