Dharwad - Hubli municipality encompass the twin cities in the Dharwad and Hubli district in the state of Karnataka, India. It is situated at a distance of 425 kilometers from Karnataka’s capital, Bangalore. Although an ancient city with historical importance, Dharwad is a fast developing commercial hub with industrial belts and IT zones and it is famous for its hybrid cotton and other agricultural crops produce in the area. Dharwad and its twin city Hubli are abundant with picnic spots and visiting spots. Nrupatunga Betta is a panoramic locale situated atop Unkal Hill at Unkal, situated 3 kilometers from Hubli. A marvellous picnic spot, Nrupatunga Betta or Hill offers a splendid bird’s eye view of Hubli and Dharwad from the apex. The picturesque view of the entire area from Nrupatunga Betta is amazing with views of the airport and Amargol also visible from the hilltop.
Nrupatunga Betta and its surroundings make for a common meeting ground of morning walkers and joggers in the vicinity and an ideal picnic hub for visitors on weekends and holidays. The area is also thriving with new real estate projects due to the scenic view. The entrance to the hillock is manned by a gate and visitors will have to walk to the hilltop by paying an entry fee of Rs.10 and Rs.5 for children aged below 3 years. There is added transport provided to elderly people who can’t walk all the way to the hillock. The entire hillock is well maintained and conserved with proper roads made from asphalt.
The entire tract to the hillock is brightly lit with lights and lamp posts with solar lighting facilities including the hilltop and a restaurant set up by ISCKON serving refreshments to visitors. A children’s park build on the premises makes for a good recreational spot for children to play and have fun with several rides and fun corners.
